does his french seem a little strange to anyone else? i mean.. ''signo-RE'' and a few other places also. i think i know this aria pretty well and this french isn'tt exactly french.... i guess this is the new wave of what opera is about today. sigh... unfortunately. a little like having a really good steak and covering it with cheap nasty wine sauce. bring back siepi, flagello, delmonaco, merrill, warren, bastianni and corelli and the rest and lets hear the real thing....

@Dair28 Dissento: l'opera non è in evoluzione perché al giorno d'oggi i cantanti "star" eseguono pochissime opere moderne (sono veramente pochi i compositori che fanno opere) e si concentrano su un repertorio "vecchio" che ha una precisissima tradizione e dei canoni IMPRESCINDIBILI. Uno di questi canoni è cantare bene, ossia cantare con perizia, e per cantare bene non esistono modernismi o evoluzioni: c'è solo un modo per cantare tecnicamente bene, e Schrott è al di fuori di tutto questo.

@botilodo non sono una grande esperta ma dire che Schrott è un dilettante è un po' esagerato, ha interpretato tante parti e ha una carriera invidiabile. Ora può piacere o meno ma penso che sia un interprete moderno e in linea con i tempi attuali che sono cambiati. La musica è un'arte in evoluzione ed è bene che si modernizzi....non si può rimanere alle interpretazioni di una volta: in questo modo la lirica può arrivare a piu persone possibili...e questo è un bene secondo me.

I really like the interpretation choices he made. Especially the lead-in to the chorus. The chorus is now all about how he's distracted by a pretty face and the fight became second fiddle. The whole has more of a storytelling effect.

That said, the technicals around execution left much to be desired.
