The Greek island Halki Presented by Alessandro Sorbello Productions http://www.alessandrosorbello.com Halki is a dry barren island with no natural fresh water, so the all important water supply has to be regularly brought in by tanker from the island of Rhodes. Halki has a very small population which
inhabits the only settlement on the island, the harbour town of Nimborio. Part of Accommodation Greek Islands http://www.accommodationgreekislands.com

Nimborio situated about the horseshoe shaped harbour with it's neo-classical style houses. The church, Agios Nikolaos, boasts the tallest campanile or bell tower in the Dodecanese.

Agios Nikolaos is also known for its wonderful mosaic courtyard created with the use of black and white pebbles known as Choklakia Mosaics. This method has been used in the Dodecanese since Byzantine times.

If you love the real unspoilt Greece then you'll love our choice of Paxos, Lefkas, Kefalonia, Lesvos , Pelion , Skopelos and Halki and if you prefer a little more independence and flexibility then you'll love the way Spirit of Greece lets you create a holiday that suits you and not the other way round.

Part of the Dodecanese group of islands and just a few miles west of Rhodes, lies the wonderful island of Halki also known as the 'Center of Peace and Friendship'. Halki being only 28sq.km and with only one village, a couple of roads, a handful of cars and no disco's. On the island of Halki, you are guaranteed a truly relaxing 'away from it all' holiday.

The island of Halki has its name variously rendered in English as Halki, Chalki, Khalki - an attempt to replicate the aspirated sound of its initial letter ('ch' as in the Scottish 'loch')...

Halki lies some 6kms off Monolithos point on the Western coast of Rhodes, about half way down, pointing almost directly East/West, 12 kms long and 3-4 wide.

For most of the year, 90% of the island is bare, barren and rocky, though the early months of the year bring grass and flowers in the mild weather after the winter rains. The only current settlement is Emborio, occupying the harbourside slopes of the bay at the island's Eastern end.
