Today we are going to do an install of part number 75153 on a 2006 Toyota Highlander. This also applies to part number 70778 from Hidden Hitch. Before we begin there are just a few things we should do before you can start. First off this shipping bracket has to go so we will take out these 2 bolts. There are also 2 rubber plugs back here that will need to come out also. We will use this bolt hole for the install but you want it to get as flat as possible or steel to steel. So what is going to happen is we are going to take this rubber plate off also. This will apply to both sides of the vehicle. Now the hitch is ready to be installed on the vehicle. It is also nice to have an extra set of hands to help lift up and install the hitch.

Now we will install the rest of our bolts and leave them loose until we snug them up. Getting to the last hole towards the front of the vehicle we realized that the hitch does not exactly match up. It is missing the holes by about 3/4 of a hole length. So what we will do to fix it is push it in a little bit with some leverage, it is not to difficult. Using a 2X4 or a heavy pipe you can flex it in and out as you need to. Now that we have all of our bolts installed we can go ahead and snug them up and make sure is sitting the way we want it. That takes care of our install of part number 75153 on our 2006 Toyota Highlander.

I bought a hitch a while ago from you guys for my '00 Frontier, great service.

For the Highlander, is it the same installation on the '08 and newer?

We are looking to pick up an '08 within the next few months.

@BHShaman It's not the exact same installation. There was a change in the design of the vehicles between the '06 and the '08 that lead to new custom fit hitches for newer models. The installation will still be somewhat similar. If you look up part 13534 on our site, you'll see its a similar round-tube design custom-fit hitch for an '08 Highlander. This page aslo has links to installation videos of the hitch on an '08 and '09 Highlander.
