Brian and Brent on an epic adventure of hitch-hiking, trekking, and backcountry snowboarding off Loveland Pass, Colorado. At 12,000 feet, this is the highest mountain road passage in the USA and is part of the continental divide. We parked at the base, hitch-hiked to the top, trekked out the ridge of the east face, chose a suitable snow covered chute to drop in on, then made our way down to the tree line and through the pines before finally ending up back to the starting point at the base. The total time up and out to the drop zone took well over and hour, while the ride from the ridge top back to the bottom lasted only 7 minutes. I should note that this is our first "real" back-country run.
Gapers. Did you even have avy gear? Just because it is off the side of the road does not make it safe. That's why people get caught and die in avalanches on Loveland Pass every year.
