  • As a wee bairn I can just remember Dalmuir West - end of terminus.....

And the sound - clack, clack, clack, clack, clack as the seats go back.

  • The reason the tram system in Glasgow was made reduntant was due to the fact overhaed powerlines had to be replaced . The corperation in thier wisdom deemed this to expensive .They replaced the corpy with the city council and they are still making woeful decisions to this day .

  • Outstanding. Must get this DVD. I've only seen these in the Transportation Museum.

  • couldn't afford it

  • sheffield and manchester have great tram systems, why did glasgow give them up?

  • your spot on ronniesem, its very spooky coz i travelled this route many times...great clip good to know we can buy them on dvd..

  • From viewing the film I can say that the first half follows a tram in logical progression along Great Western Road, from the far outskirts of Glasgow down towards and then through Anniesland (the bit where it goes under the rail bridge) and then on towards the city, passing the top of Byres Road. The second part is less clear, but I'm fairly certain it features roads in and through Maryhill and possibly Partick as well.

  • Fantastic video. Many thanks for sharing. I'm too young to remember the trams but I do appreciate the benefits of not having thousands of polluting buses on the roads of the Glasgow of today. Ah, the days before traffic congestion. There was a plan about 15 years ago to bring back a tram system to Glasgow but it seems to have been forgotten. Maybe one day!
