I got a request regarding piano footwear, what is good, what is bad, and what is recommended, so here is a video showing my opinion of different shoes.

Some like barefot while others hate it etc. This is just a little guideline. :)

Please leave your own experiences and preferences in the comments section for others to benefit from.

If it is too fast, here is a list of my pros and cons:

1. Socks (0:30)
+ Warm
+ Common to wear around the house

- Not good stability
- May cause stressing angle if high pedals.
- Foot may easily slip (and make that BANG noise).

2. Barefoot (0:53)
+ Nice in the summer
+ Can give good sense of control

- Cold metal!
- Not good stability
- May also cause stressing angle.

3. High heels (1:15)
+ Look nice for performances
+ Better angle of movement

- Thick sole, can't feel pedal.
- Knees are too high and bump into piano.
- Unstable heel.

4. Wedge Heels (1:41)
+ Look nice for performances
+ Good angle of movement.
+ Tight fit, foot moves as one unit.
+ More stable than stiletto.

- Knees will bump if too tall.
- Thick sole, can't feel pedal.

5. Flip-flops (2:07)
+ Flexible sole, can feel pedal.
+ Barefoot without touching the cold metal.

- Insecure fit, may slip off.
- Sole may move between foot and pedal.

6. Running shoes (2:32)
+ No slip.
+ Foot moves as one unit.
+ Warm.
+ Gives heel a little lift and good angle of movement.

- Not common to wear in the house.
- Can't feel pedal through sole.

7. Slippers (2:55)
+ Warm and comfy
+ Non-slip sole.
+ Flexible sole, can feel pedal.

- No heel.
- Loose.
- Sole may move between foot and pedal.

  • what is the piece that you opened with? and the one thats at 0:55 - 2:05 ? its the same piece.BUT I REALLY WANNA KNOW WHAT IT IS HAHAHA X) tthhaannks yoouu.youre a beautiful piano player btw (:

  • @Sk8rgrl243 It's "Comptine d'un autre ètè" by Yann Tiersen. You may have heard it in the film "Amelie" or on the YouTube-animation called "The Piano". :)

  • Did you play each piece in full and then edit the video to show each short part with the different shoes? If you have the full version of each piece that you played those would make great tutorials on pedaling!

  • @alyk88 I only filmed short clips, hmm. But the pedaling is pretty much the same, and if anyone wants to see the pedaling for any full songs which I have, shout out and I'll film it. :)

  • What's the name of the song played at 0:30?

  • @Matt27689 "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" by Michael Nyman. :)

  • barefoot is NEVER unstable!!!!

  • HoT !! :P

  • yo tambien se tocar the heart asks pleasure first

  • @glenthoms Okay if it isn't too late there are a few brands I know of.

    1. Sohmer (That's the kind I have And I love it!!!)

    2. Baldwin (Very high quality piano. Almost bought this kind.)

    3. Steinway (Once again a very high quality piano. Beautiful tone. The one thing I don't like is their pedals.)

All of these would be great to have. You should test out each piano before you buy it. Also the piano that has the best tone to you is the one that you will love the most, because of a magical reason.:)

  • loyds TSB!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha, very good - an interesting concept for a video :P I usually just wear socks, as that's what I'm wearing around the house anyway, and I like to be able to feel the pedal.

  • what piano do u have cos im gonna buy 1 any suggestions ?...

  • please do the queen song!! bohemian rhapsodyyy pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • You have nice feet.

  • I prefer barefoot most of the time and don't find it slips (even in winter it warms up after a while) and I often feel more in control when I'm just playing the pedal with just my big toe but that might just be me....
