Great work....just a thought though....be careful because with a big AC motor and you have a dimmer switch inline with it that dimmer was desiged for low amps such as lights. You can easily toast it or worse maybe burn up motor. The amp draw on motor with heavy load like that can be way over 15 amps...that is allot of heat in the wires ;)
Are you putting enough "brown" material in with that compost? Fallen leaves are good, but if it isn't fall, sawdust is best. That would cut down on the strong smell.
you need to Gear down the barrel. if it spins to fast, the material inside will cling to the insides due to the centrifugal force. small gear or pulley on the motor, large gear or pulley on the barrel. put some leaves, and worms in it. cut some slots down the length of the barrel about an inch wide. about every 6 inches, around the circumference. cover slots inside with some type of fine screening. for air and casting. tray under the barrel..ROCK ON DUDE
If there's a 'Tim the Toolman' of gardening, you're it! Love the concept.

Sounds like it's just sliding around the inside. You need some ridges inside to make sure it's actually turning the compost.

Oh yeah.. cover that motor with a weather guard and put a circuit braker inline on your power supply so if it over loads it wont zap yo ass.. LOL.
