[01-Mar-2010] Opel will present the extended-range electric Opel Ampera. The five-door, four-seater Opel Ampera is on schedule to go into production late 2011. It carries the same design DNA as the Astra and the Insignia, Europe's Car of the Year 2009, yet it uses an electric propulsion technology called Voltec. Unlike other conventional electric propulsion systems, Voltec uses electricity as its primary power source and, later, gasoline as a means to generate electricity. This helps the Ampera overcome all issues related to the usual limited range of pure electric cars. Available video includes shots of the new Ampera.

@Hirotoro4692 I disagree. Yes there will be better battery technology to be sure. But charging infrastructure is a long way off for most places. We are talking several decades at least. And then there are places where there will be no charging structure possible (or practical) like out in the countryside. No I think EREV technology is going to be with us for a very long time.

@juscurious EREV is just a stop-gap for consumers who are waiting on better battery technology and charging infrastructure. Once that's in place, range-extenders will be rendered impractical.

@urbex2007 No they havent take the centre console from Volvo. Its a typcal looking Opel interior, looks very similar to any other opel.
