To honor the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, Congress awarded the Apollo 11 crew and U.S. Sen. John Glenn the Congressional Gold Medal and gave them a proclamation. These are the remarks from Neil Armstrong. This event was not carried live on NASA TV. The voice you hear introducing Neil is House Science Chair U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon from Tennessee.

Absolutely agree. This is humility at it's very best. I believe Mr Armstrong perhaps has a tendency to shy away from making public speeches generally, simply because of potential nerves and shyness? Therefore he is clearly a real hero and inspiration for all people, for all times, aspiring to reach their peacefull and ultimate dreams-whether through science, engineering, technology or simply through human friendship.
What a speech! Talk about humility, and deflecting praise. He was the pinnacle of mankinds greatest achievement gives credit to everyone but himself. Amazing stuff.
Anyone who has studied manned space exploration knows how fitting it was the Neil was first. A great man who achieved greatness through hard work. For a humble man of few words, he said it all. It's nice to see him having fun with the crowd too. Along with the Dalai Lama he is on my short list of personal heroes I'd love to meet. Great video! Thanks for posting.
Wow, what a guy. He is so down to earth, despite what he did(no pun intended). He took the focus off of himself and recognized NASA and the Apollo missions as a team effort, a relay race. He is the first person ever to set foot on a surface away from our own, and he still remembers all the people who worked to make it happen.

What a swell guy.
