Well I've heard a few explanations... first is that Roger had trouble reading the lyrics while they were recording and he stuttered, and they liked how it sounded so they left it in.

I've also heard that they imply that they mean to say something other than what they say ("why don't you all just f-ff-f-f-ade away" is supposed to be "why don't you all just ff-f-f-ff-uck off" or something).

they did it because when they were growing up it was the time of alot of hardcoe drugs. Roger sang it that way to make it seem like they were on lsd or something.

I Love this song, I love the who. They are one of my favorite bands but,
I can't understad why they sing the song is like "g g g generation", "s s s s say"? Did they want to say that their generation was retarded or something?
