The creation of Michelle Dorrance and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards: A Shared Evening was made possible, in part, by the Danspace Project 2010-2011 Commissioning Initiative with support from the Jerome Foundation. Danspace's Commissioning Initiative is a core component of the Choreographic Center Without Walls (CW²). As the new operating model through which Danspace presents and commissions new work in all of its programs, CW² aims to examine and discover ways of providing context, curatorial support, and space for choreographers and their works.
