helping out a friend who wants to make a card for her bf, I prefer paint tool sai but she doesn't have it, and that's kinda why this isn't really one of my best pictures. but i f you wanna skip the video here is all the steps I wrote down:
First step: so it's easiest for me if I draw it out on paper first so do that,
Second step: scan photo to computer, I have no scanner so I take a picture then upload that
Third step: make a new layer for line art, make sure it's set to multiply
Fourth step: use the line tool to trace the pencil (or pen) lines, tip: use color the whole layer white and use white line to sharpen your line.
Fifth step: ok now make a layer for color (one for each different color)
Sixth step: now go back to you line art layer change your magic wand to global setting and change tolerance to 0% then select part of a line (must be pure black).
Seventh step: copy and paste into a new layer
Eighth step: now fill in any gaps in the lines on you new layer.
ninth step: magic wand the area you want to color then go to the layer for it and paint bucket the color you want
tenth step: make a layer above your color and use the line tool with a darker shade of your color and go over the places where a shadow should be.
eleventh step: on the same layer use a slightly lighter color around your darker line to soften to shadeing, and also add any extra color to the layer (blush or highlights whatever)
twelveth step: guassion glur the layer (change depending on object and size)
thirteenth step: and shine by repeating steps 10-12 with a lighter color.
fourteenth step: magic wand on the original color layer so all the color is selected (only the solid color) and go to the shade and shine layers and remover all color outside solid color
fifteenth step: repeat 9-14 for each color
sixteenth step: add a backround, I don't care what or even if you do so I'm not going to tell you what to do for this one.
seventeenth step: add a signature in the corner if you want.
nineteenth step: your finished now go eat a bagel or something.
twentieth step: notice that I skipped step 18.
