"Some events are written in pencil; War writes in permanent marker." - Letha Costin

I was listening to an interview on NPR with several veterans at various stages of their return from deployment. While I consider myself to be empathetic, I realized that I didn't really "get" how much time this process can take. I was also guilty of having some subconscious idea that the goal was to get back to normal. However, normal had moved for most of these veterans. There was no going back...only forward.

As any good writer would do, I crafted lyrics that represent a single aspect of this multi-faceted creature called war. Miles constructed the chorus and amazing music. Gregg, who is a navy veteran, put his heart and voice into the song.
I hope that it increases greater awareness and inspires deeper compassion for those who have served, their family, and friends.
