There's no way it hit off Fuqua. It's physics, man. Tatum hit it because the ball traveled further and Tatum was going for a hit, and physics tells us that every action has an equal and opposite reaction (Newton's Laws).

When I watched this game back in 1972, I knew nothing about the Steelers, but I was rooting for them simply because I HATED the Raiders. This play made me a Steelers fan for life!

because how are you going to catch something if your on the ground before you can even put your fingers on the ball? that's like asking someone why its a foul in basketball to grasp someone hand and pull them to the floor right before they shoot

Even if it did hit Fuqa the rule at the time did not state that it couldn't be caught by an O player if it hit another O player after hitting a D player first.

The rule was it couldn't go from O to O with no D contact in between. The rule was void if the D touched it first. People only assumed that if D touched it first that the same rule applied from O to O which is not the case if the D touched it first
