Newton stated that an object will remain in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Newton may have received credit for quantifying this idea of motion mathematically buy he was not the first person to make use of it. The monks that developed Wu Chi Chuan have recognized this concept in nature and have put it into application several thousand years before Newton was born. In Wu Chi Chuan, the "unbalanced force" is referred to as "initiating force". The bodies of all animals can not move or change velocity unless there is an initiating force present. For humans, it is more efficient to create initiating force with the hands since they are less affected by gravity. For animals with a tail, then the initiating force will come from the movement of their tail. For birds, the initiating force will come from bobbing their heads.

  • That actually made loads of sense. I've been experimenting with using my arms as my initiating force for any body movements and it does actually feel like less work goes into moving. Thanks for putting up the video, very useful.
