The Tater Mess, a campaigner-style Civil Reenacting unit from Kansas City and environs took part in a living history at the Pea Ridge Battlefield National Historic Park on March 7, 8 and 9, 2008.

After passing a frigid night in the Leetown part of the park we marched to the Elkhorn Tavern and did marching and firing demonstrations for the public as the Missouri State Guard.

As the event was ending on Sunday I got some of my comrades to play some music. Here you see and hear Kyle Pretzl on Bones and David West on canteen half. Soldiers in the Civil War were known to make instruments with what was available, and I dug what Dave was doing.

The Grape Vine Twist was a famous banjo tune written by Joel Walker Sweeney.

  • Was he hung over?

  • Oh you mean stand of ticks. Yep that event was torture but fun.

  • Not authentic to this area. That was out east this is in the Trans-Missisippi theatre. I would like them to play it too but they are just so obsessed about authenticity that I just don't think they would play it. Bujt just because they are obsessed with authentiticity doesn't mean they are nice people except for a couple of them.

  • Love the music. If any of y'all ever need a home in middle TN,look up the Dippin' Gourds.

  • real music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ; )!!!!

  • go there Kyle u sound just as good as u did in person

  • I like how Nic Clark was just randomly passed out asleep infront of us, and he didn't even move the whole time we were playin..... ha ha
