@dalehgeist man, you got a story of a lifetime now..one to score well drinks on until they throw you out. in fact now i plan to brag about how i commented on the guy that worked on this videos comment in the hope that i can bag a few free pabst tallboys. but for real thanks for sharing the tale, Tom is a true treasure in an era of the exact opposite.

I worked on this video. It was shot, as Tom says at the top, at the Chi Chi Club on Broadway in San Francisco.
The "dummy" is Val Diamond, the longtime star of the Beach Blanket Babylon revue. It was directed by Chris Blum, who would later direct the Waits concert film "Big Time," which I also worked on.
During a break, I found myself near Tom, and I summoned up the courage to tell him that he was a big influence on my own music.
"Oh yeah? That's great," he said. "Got a marimba in the band?"
