In case you don't know, Japanese composer Akira Ifukube composed the music for Godzilla (Gojira) but he also wrote themes for many other movies. Disney released Fantasia in 1940 and it was a masterpiece of animation and music integration. I got to see the 1977 restoration in L.A. on a huge wraparound screen and it was amazing. A few years back, a friend introduced me to the original Gojira and I was impressed by the coherent storyline and the music. You need to see the original Godzilla (Gojira) which is without Raymond Burr, its way superior to the American release Godzilla. Arika Ifukube's work is timeless, so it had to go with Fantasia.

  • dude typo in the title

  • Godzilla, King of the Monsters was released in the U.S. in 1956 with Raymond Burr as the new added character Steve Martin (not the comedian). The original, uncut Japanese 1954 Gojira did not air in U.S. movie theaters, but did become available on DVD about 50 years later, which would have been the first opportunity for Americans to see the original. Since Godzilla is the better known movie in the west and has become a pop culture icon, I used the Godzilla title rather than Gojira.

  • Erm Gojiro actually Gojira.

  • Right you are, my mistake in the misspelling!

  • @Tareltonlives As is Disney

  • I'm pretty sure Stravinsky was one of Ifukube's main inspirations.

  • Disney and Toho go together!!

  • The original was good but I proffered the American release.

  • I think the typo sent out was the fact that its called Symphonic Fantasia. But it was for Godzilla / Gojiro so whatev.

  • If Godzilla ever crosses over with Disney I know a good movie. Hannah Montana woke him up with her awful singing and he wakes up and ruins her concert. Everyone runs except her. She looks at Godzilla and thinks her singing will calm him down. Instead it pisses him off and he blows his atomic breath on her.

  • @CoastConFan Great job!!!! The Ifukube music really compliments the Right of Spring segment. You should try doing it with the whole segment. Thats something I'd pay money to see!!! If the thought ever crosses your mind I've got some ideas about what Ifukube music to play during the middle part. But whether you do or not this is still great stuff. 10 out of 10!!!!!!

  • i forgot what it was like to be around godzilla fans

  • Don't be too hard on the Terry Morse adaption of Godzilla. This film could not be sold to American audiences in it's original form. Even if the film is shorter than the Japanese cut, It still has the same impact. The only differance is , that it is a reader's Digest form of the story. Raymound Burr's Character narration, covers what the Characters would have spent time talking about; in the original version. It was his version that started the legend.
