  • I'm going to see her at the Met. Oh yeah, and Placido Domingo as well...haha.

  • LOL. That's how I feel about Mentzer too! Whenever she's on stage, there's no one else. She COMMANDS all attention.

  • I forgot to mention Cecilia Bartoli as Susanna. If the entire 1999 Met Nozze production was available, rather than in YouTube snippets, I think it would have helped Suzanne Mentzner's career. I loved her Cherubino. To work so hard and not get the recognition you hope for must be a real downer. At least in Tales of Hoffman, she also gets to wear women's clothes and long hair as the Muse so you can appreciate her good looks.

  • Thank you for posting this. I love Suzanne Mentzner. I have this DVD and think she did a terrific job.

I first saw her in the 1998-1999 La Nozze di Figaro-Met production which the Met apparently does not intend to release; bummer!! Renee Fleming was a smash, Suzanne was great, Bryn Terfel and Dwayne Croft were great and Danielle De Niese sang her Met debut Barbarina. Fleming's oldest daughter, Amelia was in several scenes with Renee as a non-singing child for her Met "debut".

  • When 22 of age, she sung before Pavarotti at his masterclass. A stunning Cherubino !

Search You Tube with "pavarotti masterclass 002"

  • Thanks!

    Amazing aria and amazing rendition.

    *IN LOVE*

  • What a lovely aria, and what a geat performance! I just turned a Mentzer fan.

  • Mentzer is a VASTLY underrated artist, in my opinion. When I first saw this DVD of "Hoffmann" (the best production of the opera I've ever seen, incidentally), I dismissed her as kind of a second-class singer, next to operatic giants like Neil Shicoff, Ruth Ann Swenson, and Bryn Terfel (literal giant, in his case). And then this song wheeled around, and I found myself eating my own words. Since then, I've heard her in several other recordings and she's never ceased to impress.

  • Haha, actually I got the tickets because of Domingo, but then I got EXTRA excited to find out she was in it!

  • Brava! Holy moly!
