Market research insitute GfK recently reported that German shoppers are reluctant to spend. We went to Cologne's Schildergasse, Germany's and Europe's busiest shopping street. With almost 13,000 people passing through every hour, it beats London's Oxford Street into second place.
Besides the familiar chain stores, some independent retailers still do business here, despite the high rents. Mabel Gundlach spent a day here for Made in Germany and asked customers and dealers about the apparent consumer slow-down.
It is good they are asking the price before spending. Long live Europe, where I live now, from the USA.
