Legacy of war in South Ossetia
09 March, 2009,
Its been seven months since the war in South Ossetia ended but humanitarian aid is still being distributed among Ossetians, as many lost almost everything they possessed.
Beds, furniture, the fridge, everything There was a washing machine, a wardrobe, everything burned down, nothing is left, said 70-year-old Sonya Glagoleva, who survived the war.

Glagoleva now lives in an old wagon left by the Russian peacekeepers. The wagon with plastic bags instead of glass windows and with the only warmth coming from a small wood-burning stove is parked next to the ruins of her house.
On the night of August 7, Georgian troops opened fire on Tskhinval, the capital of South Ossetia. Five days of severe artillery and aerial shelling left hundreds dead and most of the town ruined.
When NATO foreign ministers in Brussels agreed on 05 March 2009 to resume high-level formal ties with Russia, some members within this political-military bloc grumbled that Russia was being prematurely rewarded for bad behavior" Of course the bad behavior was a reference to Russias peacekeeping actions to Georgias aggression against South Ossetia last August. This is only one small example of how out of touch the Atlantic alliance is with reality. How does NATO define democracy? Well, you tell me. From the get go Russia is not a democracy. This is not because of objective conditions, but because Russia will not submit to NATOs worldview (which is to submit to NATOs global political ambitions). Georgia and Ukraine are considered to be democracies because their current political elites want nothing more than to submit to NATOs democracy only to legitimize the same regimes that are anything but democratic. Then we have the Baltic republics where every year WWII veterans can be seen marching in Nazi uniforms. And these marches are sanctioned and in some cases financially supported by the state.
Then there is todays example. Lithuania stalled for hours NATOs decision to re-engage Russia. (I suppose it was Lithuanias turn to be the spoiler within NATO representing the other refusniks in New Europe). Since when has the refusniks done anything to promote international security? They only talk and demand others to work to protect them from treats that do not exist.
The heavies in NATO simply heard out the pesky Lithuanian and then pronounced the alliances consensus. This is just more democracy on the cheap.
Watching NATO today was like watching a bad picture show. The acting is bad, the script sub-standard, and the plot senseless. NATO believes its mission is to save the world. At sixty NATO is an old man who should retire. The glory days are in the past. It is time for a very different and more dynamic security arrangement to be conceived. Russia has proposed as much. Sadly few are listening as NATO continues it dive into redundancy.
The war in South Ossetia is a war of medieval atrocity unleashed by a country claiming to be a young democracy and seeing itself as part of the humane Europe. The aggression launched by the current Georgian regime and its puppeteers is marked by extraordinary cruelty and cynical lies. Georgian authoritarian Saakashvili would have never dared to do what it did without the support of some Russophobe politicians in the so-called West. The crimes committed in South Ossetia the killings of women, children, and senior citizens, the deliberate extermination of civilians are instances of inhuman conduct. In the horrible days of the tragedy, Russians not only truly fulfilled their peacekeeping obligations, but above all they also did not betray their countrymen in South Ossetia. On August 9, the Georgian Fuhrer gave a 10-minute interview to CNN, which opened an obviously synchronized anti-Russian campaign in the Western media. Since then, the main theme is that Russia used all of its military might against the tiny Georgia. During the war, the corporate Western media have been launching an all-out mankurtization campaign. In the modern world, the complex procedure of suppressing human will and ability to think and to analyze has become extremely simple and is known as brainwashing. Judging by the dirty lies about the war waged by the Georgian leadership against civilians and Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia, the biased Western media and political leaders of the Euro-Atlantic civilization regard their own citizens as mankurts. The global success of brainwashing during the Kosovo, Chechen, Iraqi and other crises is renowned. The Western international community is so preoccupied with human rights issues it does not seem to be concerned about thousands of Ossetian children, women and elderly who were trapped without water, electric power, and food under the ruins of Tskhinval during 5 days of Georgian war on their land.

  • double standards, hypocrisy are unextricable parts of western politics. murderous regime can be claimed democratic (Saakashvilli and Georgia) and defender of human lives and dignity in S.Ossetia (Russia) can be called agressor. everything is possible in behind mirror world.

  • CNN, BBC, FoxNews and other major west media are so biased when they report on Russia and China.

  • Yes, any Israeli who justifies the genocide carried out against South Osetia is. And so is any Israeli who justifies the Genocide which the Ustase, the Islamic SS and others carried out against Serbs, decades ago and in the recent past.
