Wimbledon 06 Second Life Demo

I'm a total newbie to second life and when I tried to play it yesterday, the game was a bit too laggy, walking seemed too robotic and the surroundings took pretty long to appear (8mbit conn)

but why would you play this game... is it for werid people who hate their lives?

If you could watch basketball in a photo realistic way but from any angle with a crowd of people present would that not be better than just a tv feed? It is of course never going to be better than being there in real life, but TV is not the absoulute best way IMHO
Virtual worlds are not about isolation but connecting people who are not able to be in the same place at the same time.

the graphics suck

they do compared to high end games, but.... its things that can change in real time and anyone can build, (and its 2 years old now)
The gfx will improve in virtual worlds like this, just as the web has improved. The really important part now is the people, people connect immersed in content

its a virtual world, 3d interaction over the web, not specifically a game and part of a massive change in the industry.
Of course you could just google it :-)
