The pup in this video is 5 1/2 years old now. (to those who commented long ago, her joints are just fine) We now have another berner and he prefers to toboggan down the stairs with his front paws straight out. He's almost 5 months old and quite capable of walking the stairs - he just likes to slide instead.

Le mien était trop bébé pour monter ou descendre l'escalier. Alors je le montais et le descendais dans mes bras. Alors depuis c'est ok. Tout de même il a près de 7 ans et 85 lbs. ahaha c'est un amour de Charlie.

Holy hell that's a couragous pup! We had to carry our Dobermann pup down the stairs for a month until she finally did it herself!

@Hatseflats89 If a Bernese is going to have joint issues in the future it will most likely be because of genetic reasons, not because they went up and down stairs when they were younger, this is a common myth that giant breed (and Berners in particular) should be kept in a protective bubble until they are 1 or 2 years old. its nonsense, use common sense and just don't over exercise them. Remember that this is a MOUNTAIN DOG, a flight a stairs wont do it any harm.

my bernese learned the hard way :D ran up the stairs no problem but we had to coax her down with food eventually she learned its a fluid motion to get downstairs :D
