That's not a backhoe that's a termite. Short for a POS yellow thing with a couple of buckets and some tires............definitely not a backhoe.

To all those that haul tractors: Note the tractor did not stay in place on the trailer, but the chains allowed it to move.
It was not chained properly, and that may have contributed to the wreck!
I so often see backhoes and even large excavators going down the freeway bouncing around on the trailer with too few and loose chains, not only is it hard on the tractor and trailer with all the banging and shock loading, it's not legal! (or safe)

Together or separately?
Trailer with tractor still loaded pulled up onto the flatbed carrier?
If so, back first or tongue first?

They towed the whole thing on the flatbed with the tongue first- was a very slow process getting it loaded.

Did they take the wheels off the trailer to set it back up or did they come off in the accident?

No the tires coming off caused the accident- trailer fishtailed. Made the recovery much harder- one side of trailer dug into the pavement.
