OCEAN CITY — The second bank robbery in as many days took place Tuesday, July 28 at about 9:15 a.m. at the Sturdy Savings Bank on 34th Street.
Information received was that the suspect was a white male, approximately 180 lbs. There were no weapons displayed and an unknown amount of cash was stolen. At this time the suspect was seen leaving the area on a bicycle, according to police.
Initially they were looking for a black over gray Ford F150 supercab pickup truck with a toolbox and a Phillies sticker on the rear. That vehicle had Pennsylvania license plates.
At 10:05 a.m, officers from Ocean City Police Department, Somers Point, Egg Harbor Township, Woodbine and Bass River station State Police and Cape May County Prosecutor's Office were searching.
A tracking dog followed the alleged robber's scent to 29th and Simpson Avenue where a bird sanctuary is located. That wooded tract is surrounded by police, and a State Police helicopter has been requested to the scene to assist in the search.
At 11:35 the county search plan was terminated.
On Monday, July 27, a subject robbed the PNC Bank on Roosevelt Boulevard. He was still being sought by police.
