A little look at the chickens early this morning as they were coming out of the coop then a bit of a tour of the gardens and a look at the progress in the new Hoop House. I continue to be amazed at how well things are growing in there. Still no idea of course as to how late in the fall I will be able to use it, but it is a fun experiment and I'm sure I'm going to get some crops out of it. The lettuce, Chinese Cabbage and Swiss Chard are doing very well and should be ready to eat in a couple of weeks.

  • The color on those melons are amazing! I love how you have mixed veggies everywhere! My lemon cucumbers didn't do well this year:( Last year they did great but this year I only got one! Great garden video! Thx!

  • @dulce3tat Thank you. Lemon cucumbers never seem to do very well here either not a very hardy variety in my opinion. I'm a vegetarian so I try to grow as much variety as possible.

  • So far so good! I hope your hoophouse season lasts much longer for you this year so you can continue to enjoy your goodies! Glad you didn't find any earwigs yet - horribly pesky things! I ate some of the 'fuzzy' chinese cabbage on it's own tonight.. it's not fuzzy after you steam it, they wilt and it's very yummy.. a very 'green' or 'crisp' tasting cabbage... good for when you are on a diet :)

  • @Watsamadoing Things are growing so fast in there it amazes me. Getting colder here now there have been frost warnings for the northern part of the province, I live in the southern tip, up north they usually get frost a month before we do. I don't think I will have any problems in there through October, might loose the tomatoes before then. The Chinese cabbage was very good in a stir-fry.

  • Tigger melons looking nice - I hope they ripen for you as well. They're a good baseball to softball size usually. If they don't ripen they'll be good to play catch with!

  • @steen1973 So far mine are croquet ball size.

  • @loislaney23 Nasty things in deed we never used to have them but now we are over run with them.

  • Garden looks great. I like the straw idea for earwigs. Nasty things!!

  • @garygardens I'm not sure I covered one completely with duct tape and there haven't been any in it either. They use these here in the park gardens and they put the straws inside of a piece of 2 inch black plastic pipe.

  • It's all looking very nice Dale. I'm jealous of all your ripening tomatoes though. Those earwig traps are interesting. I had a bucket with a hollow handle on it near the garden. When I picked up the bucket, the earwigs just swarmed out of that handle. I couldn't believe how many were in there. Would dark colored straws work better than the clear or translucent ones do you think?

    Regards, Gary
