From the Clone Wars episode "Downfall of a Droid"

After the loss of R2-D2 during the Battle of Bothawui, Goldie was assigned as a temporary replacement to Anakin Skywalker during the search for Artoo. R3 joined Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, on the Twilight, leaving the Resolute to search the battlefield for the lost droid, as he contained secret Republic strategies and information and would be dangerous in the hands of the Separatists.

Wow! The animation of this episode looks like it wasn't even fully rendered. That's one hell of a big difference on S1 & S2.

To be fair to Ahsoka, she's just trying to help Anakin deal with the loss of R2. Not her fault that she didn't know that beyond the fourth wall there'd be RAGE about 'Goldie' :P

I do agree though: Nothing can replace R2-D2... not even T3-M4 or HK-47.

The only reason he didn't replace r2 was because ashoka sounded like meg griffin. NOBODY LISTENS TO A MEG GRIFFIN

I've always wondered why Asoka could not have gotten R3s6 when the ep was over. Would be cool if she reprogrammed him and kept him.
