  • People who describe Kata or Demonstraition as "A dance" etc are only showing their ignorance.

They don't have a clue what they are talking about.

  • Geez, this is a DEMONSTRATION! What do you want him to do - crush skulls and brake bones?!?!

  • @IEKUKATAKA Ok, well, I appreciate your efforts to keep the tradition alive. The traditional arts are dying out. I'm seeing things becoming more & more commercialized on all fronts...in everything from martial arts to the music industry & it saddens me... but I only have a year and a half of martial arts training under my belt so there's no irreversable damage. I'm going to continue my research & see if I can trace our lineage from my instructor back to Okinawa.

  • @WalkOfTheWarrior Do nothing if you want to be a part of the problem. Assure yourself by research (your own in depth study) that what you are involoved in is legit if you really want to be involved in a particular art and help perpetuate the truth by doing so.

  • @IEKUKATAKA I said I understand what you're saying & now you're repeating yourself. I understand that ignorant westerners refer to every martial arts move as ninjutsu or the practitioner a "ninja", I understand that many instructors strap on a black belt they have not earned in order to turn a profit, I understand many establishments slap the name 'karate' on their sign to draw in greater volumes of students under false pretenses, my question is what is there to do about it? Switch arts?

  • @WalkOfTheWarrior 2 And, before you say yes to that question, ask yourself, how do you know? You are in the center of the most despicable karate fraud in the entire world, America. You say you train in Goju and I tell you that statistiically, you may not. Are you aware that some Americans have completetly made up what they teach and sell it every day as karate? Basketball on a tennis court with no rims, a bat, and a hackey sack is not baseball no matter what baseball sensei says it is.

  • @WalkOfTheWarrior It does not appear you are well versed in history with that statement. And, I really don't care what people train in and you are missing my point. If someone teaches you boxing and calls it karate he has done you a terrible wrong. It is a lie and it perpetuates it in you. People use the name karate every day in order to gain from it. That is a shame and wrong and in the west, it has been done so much that millions do not know what karate really is. Do you, really, actually? 2

  • @IEKUKATAKA I understand exactly what you're saying & I'm relatively well versed in the history of karate...You can call it Okinawan or you can call it a melting pot of Japanese & Chinese because that's what it is. I also have an extreme distaste for McDojos & tournament-geared training. You have to take into account though that most people do not have a traditional Okinawan sensei readily available so what do you propose they do? Not train?

  • @WalkOfTheWarrior I am not a purist, I am a realist. I refuse to allow delusion in my view, I will not allow lying to be integral to my position, I will not join the American organized and mutually supporting movement to call everything under the sun karate so egos can be soothed and money can be made. In short, I will not deceive myself about this martial art. Others can and millions of others do and as a result, we have millions of black belts who know nothing of karate or martial arts.

  • @WalkOfTheWarrior I would not chacterize what you are learning as not karate at all until I see how it is executed and what the focus is. What is it with westerners that makes them so blind to a simpe truth. The art is Okinawan, they developed it and it has a general make up or model. Boxing does not fit the model, savate does not fit the model, jujitsu does not fit the model and neither does the JKA, JKS, ISKF, AAKF etc. All are a sport with three basic techniques, IS THAT WHAT KARATE IS?

  • @IEKUKATAKA Anyway my instructor has told me that he mixed some of his taekwondo training into his goju ryu system so by your standards what I'm learning is not karate. That's ok with me because I am not a purist like yourself. I think as far as traditional martial arts go any one doctrine is too narrow to make a well rounded fighter. I also feel this is about as legit as it's going to get here in the US, until I have the means to travel to Okinawa, Thailand ect. & learn.

  • @IEKUKATAKA Sorry, when I said video I didnt actually mean a recording. I just thought that if you took your information & made a montage of text in video format, maybe accompanied by music, more people would read what you have to say. After all people come to youtube seeking videos, not long channel descriptions. Just food for thought.
