Tamyra lost season 1 because her voters thought she was a sure finalist so many stopped voting. Kelly Clarkson probably would have won anyway because she was more popular but in my opinion Tamyra's vocals and stage presence were the best of any female contestant ever on american idol.

@nightflyre9 That's absolutely insane, she was brilliant, I'm a music teacher and i can tell you she was not "off key" as you put it. She was in tune for almost all of it besides minor riffing notes that were a bit off, but that comes from nerves. And if you look up old videos of Whitney when she was that old, you would see her sounding very similar. Both have young, strong, powerful chest voices. So the comparison is not as far fetched as you claim.

Sorry, but there was absolutely NOTHING special about that performance. In fact, she was off key and sharp through most of it. For Simon to have compared her to Whitney and Celine is a joke. She's an average singer with no spark or unique qualities. There's a reason Kelly Clarkson is a household name and Tamyra is still unknown ten years later.
