first of the us Federal Government is not a Democracy,its a federal Republic, second for all the problems in our government the electoral college is the least of our problems for two to change it would require amending the constitution, that is highly unlikely to happen because small states would support the continued existence of the electoral college, finally the system of the electoral college has only failed to pick the popular vote 3 times since the founding of this nation

Well, the jest of it is that the electors they would all vote with independent judements and not tied to political pary or popular vote.
Today, most states require the electors to vote for the candidate that wins the popular vote. With many states require a "winner take all" electors.
By having the Electoral College = the popular vote then we have lost the last line of defense against a popular candidate with dictatorial intent. (i.e. Chavez, Putin, and Mugabe).
