June 1999 A fighting ring, a mare on heat and two stallions fighting to the death. It's the new and popular South Korean sport of horse fighting.
On an island where horses are usually traded for meat and medicine few are sentimental about watching the proud animals fight. Promoter Kim Byong denies the sport is cruel "Horsefighting simply brings out that basic instinct in an animal," he says. In the midst of the cheering crowd the stallions rear and kick to win the mare. They are awarded marks for the number of bites and kicks they land on their opponent. Weaker horses are occasionally killed. The organisers are hoping the sport will catch on with tourists. And if the spectacle of the fighting fails to draw them there's always the celebratory horsemeat barbecue to follow.

I'm not trying to offend anyone when I say this but fighting horses is wrong. I adore animals of all sorts but horses are my favorite. Culture or not no animal should have to be injured like this. They are too good of animals to be treated like this. I'm sorry if you don't like my opinion but you can't change it. Theres no use for rude replies because they mean nothing to me.
i dont care if you love them actually thats got nothing to do with what im saying im saying horses should not have to go throught this (EVEN IF IT IS THEIR CULTURE). That doesn't take away the fact that the horses fight to their death when they dont have to. If they are killed for meat it should be done humanely and if you did love them then you wouldn't think it would be alright for this to happen to such a beautiful animal
I've been riding horses for as long as i could remember. This is just cruel to do to such a wanderful animal. Horse fighting sucks ! I hope I never see anything like this in person. I would problely kill myself from crying too much if i did.
One more reason to say: I never travel to ASIA. It a country where people don't know, how to treat animals. They don't care about them. They live in barracs on the street.........so I hope that they croak for that
ACTUALLY Gallopgirl, I was just looking at the logic of it. I happen to adore horses, want to own some one day. Would love to have a horse farm, be able to trail ride and the like. But I'm not one to judge how other countries divvy out their meat either, contest or not. I mean, look at how we raise our animals that we eat. Ever looked at a veal farm before regulations were put in? Ever noticed how many hormones and horrible things go into our food? At least those animals are lively and healthy.
