Personal Locator Beacons are devices that transmit a distress signal that allows emergency and rescue personnel a means of locating a victim in need of aid. For groups or individuals that travel beyond the limits of cell phone coverage, PLBs provide a critical safety margin. Those back home are more comfortable knowing their love ones have some means of communicating distress in an emergency.

  • Be sure to watch our review of the 2nd Generation SPOT.

  • Do you sell it for overseas people? Who can we get it ?

Does it work out side US?

    What about the price Now?

    Thanks (d:)

  • @saadmll

    Hello,

Yes we can sell outside the US. Yes it works outside the US. The price is $139.95 for the SPOT 2. Don't buy the original SPOT it doesn't work as well as the SPOT 2. I have been testing one now for over a month and it works as advertised and a lot better than the Original SPOT. Here is a link where you can see the SPOT 2 and order it if you decide too.

  • @saadmll

It wouldn't let me put in a link so Go to our website OTBPMaps and click on Adventure Station and on the first page you will see both the original SPOT and the new SPOT 2.

  • NEW SPOT INFORMATION

Here is some information from SPOT on how to tell the difference between the recalled and fixed units.

    March 9th, 2010,

    Dear Valued Distribution Partners,

We are starting to ship SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger (SPOT-2) to the channel. Here are instructions to distinguish between the recalled and fixed units:

    BOTTOM OF PRODUCT BOX:

-RECALLED UNITS: DONT HAVE LARGE WHITE STICKER

-FIXED UNITS: HAVE LARGE WHITE STICKER, WITH UPC CODE

  • As soon as I can get one of the new SPOT's I will test it out to see how it does and do a new report. I have to wait until they are on the market as well.

One thing I can tell you is that I have passed on my findings to SPOT and a request to get a unit so that I can run it through some test and I haven't heard back from them on either issue.

  • @welsmj64 how far offshore can u go with this device? and is it water proof to what depth?

  • @welsmj64

    Thank you for answering

    I`ll check your website

  • moe198,

After talking with the rep the acquisition will be better as far as the unit getting your location identified quicker, but when it transmits that data it will work the same as the SPOT 1 units. If thats the case I would be concerned with getting the signal out through the forest canopy, but it would be a lot shorter craw to open sky than to you vehicle I would assume.

If you want for sure emergency only coverage look into the ACR's products.

  • For you reps...I am a hunter and my issue is that I hunt alone many times a year. My biggest concern was the tree cover and getting a signal through. Most accidents for hunters stem from falling out of trees. So how does this new version work through a forest canopy?
