Some thoughts on teachers, students and the Future of Education.
If there's a bookish child in your life, you should get them a copy of The Way Things Work: http://goo.gl/QdreH

Also I don't think that the idea of Digital Aristotle is sci-fi, but if you *do* want to read the sci-fi version, I highly recommend The Diamond Age: http://goo.gl/uvbx6

Thanks to YouTube EDU for bringing me out: http://www.youtube.com/education

And Angela for arranging the whole show: http://www.youtube.com/aresearchbug

And Jessica for her amazing note artwork: http://www.youtube.com/seppyca

A problem with competition in education is that some will succeed but others will be left behind.

With this style of teaching classmates are reluctant to help each other & people grow up thinking they always have to be better then the next person, whether its the right decision or not.

When there is competition people that win feel great, peeps that do bad feel stupid or useless and anxiety can build which hampers their learning.

Education is not meant to be a competition, its meant to be fair.

Heh, grammar is very important, and I do suck at it. Ill reprint my former statement - "Thanks, man, Udacity Is better, for more advanced learners though(implying academic stuff 2 ) . KA and UC are meant for different audiences" To add to that the difference of target audiences, id presume, explains the difference in popularity/media coverage = there are more people with lesser education, though in future KA will expand.

Touching the middle ground coverage =search any applied (ur subject) videos.

Might well be. Although I find the introductory courses at UC quite well done for mostly academic stuff. Actually, I'm missing some middle ground between accessible Youtube videos like Scishow and advanced stuff like KA/UC where you really need intrinsic motivation to learn something.

Thanks, man Udacity IS better, for more advanced learners though, id say, KA and UC just have different audiences.

I don't understand the hype about Khan Academy though. Udacity does the same thing better IMHO.

Imagine many people working on one educational program - it's just too much work for only one person.

Then imagine many different educational programs. Even today we have Microsoft Office vs Open Office vs Apple iWork, Firefox vs Chrome vs Safari vs Opera, the list goes on. There won't just be one educational program.
