Don't you just love these EXPERT Villagers?
I think other villagers shoulde chase them away with pitchforks and torches!

VASELINE will, WILL, destroy, eat away, any rubber. Use a silicone produce to get a result that will not hurt any rubber.
-
awesome got 1 question the part of the handle you screw in around that thing wont screw in but it will when i dont have that little thing put in the faucet can ya help me buddy?

"Wipe Vaseline on it." - the idiot's solution to everything
-
That o-ring has nothing to do with the faucet being squeaky.If you notice on this cartridge there is a small plastic tab just above the o-ring that fits into the faucet.It allows you to place the cartridge in the faucet correctly and prevents the cartridge from turning.Vaseline is a no-no.Some cartridges will come apart as well and have an o-ring inside.The stem goes through the o-ring and will squeak when turned if not lubed and will leak eventually.good luck and have a good day.

The bottom metal plate with two holes touches a rubber washer in the faucet.

he's going to lube the washer...

@bigsavannah That's right!
look guys, that o-ring is not the cause of the squeekness, as that o-ring does not turn at all when the handle is turned on and off. The only part that moves is the internal pieces of the cartrige. and the shiny stainless steel plate shown on the bottom of the cartridge. This is the part that needs lubricant, and by lubricant i dont mean ....WATER SOLUABLE PETROLLEUM BASED VASALINE.USE ONLY WATER PROOF GREASE! That o-ring only prevents water from coming out under the handles. Handymen=problems!

Actually ecfrazier2222, some water cartridges have the o-ring rubbing against the valves as a on-off switch. Hot water can deteriorate the rubber over time and yes VASOLINE should not be used.
