Justin Gabriel was a cmpetitive swimmer in high school. Now he uses those acquired aquatic skills as a Navy SEAL. His story is one of accountability, drive and teamwork.
I'm in on a Barrier Island so I've got the Atlantic to my expense. I'm taking lifeguarding courses at the moment and when I apply for the Beach Lifeguards they basically go through a miniature BUD/S (it's really just Rookie Training) so those 2 Mile Swims and Runs will be incorporated I'm sure, and that's exactly what I tried to telling them but they don't think smoke harms the lungs, hahaha
@Iceman5164 my other comment didn't post, I'm more of a distance than a sprinter, I've done 3 miles in under 2 hours when i was 13 haha but anyways, id say they may wanna quit smoking and start running haha need as much lung cap as you can get in special forces!
@Iceman5164 another recommendation, if you plan on going in after high school id recommend finding a large body of water, lake, river, ocean if you live near it. And do some 2 mile swims, that will definitely prep you for BUD/s
The Miles are another thing, I'm more or a sprinter... Average is like 26.33 for a 50 Free which isn't that bad for a kid who just started competitively swimming last year, but yeah... I've got friends considering joining SF but they don't swim or run, all they do is lift weights and smoke, haha, last swim meet is Tuesday though so I'm gonna head to the weight room soon myself
@Iceman5164 im a virgin run guy on the hypoxic sets, but i specialize in distance, i could swim miles on end if need be, I've done 3 miles straight before and thats my max. My coach used to coach with a SEAL but really isn't into it, I'm the only one on my team thats even thinking SEALs so he has no need to worry. And one lap underwater swim is all you'll need to be able to do in BUD/s, so focus on strengthening that. He has us do a lot of blowouts though. Those suck. haha
The Hypoxic sets aren't that bad... I can swim a lap of freestyle with no air without a problem... I've tried swimming underwater using the breast kick and pull and because of my lung capacity I can only make one lap but I still got another year and a Summer of Beach Lifeguarding to get that done with... my Coach is also into the Rangers, SEALs, etc. and he hosts a SEAL Challenge at the end of the Year so that should be fun
@Iceman5164 my coach makes us do hypoxic sets, (Sets that limit the amount of oxygen you can take) like 15x 100's with 5 breaths per 100. i was able to pull off a 50 yard underwater without breathing. i would still love for it to increase though! running and flexibility are my weaknesses!
Same here, I'm on my High School's Swim Team and I have been for 2 Years, I lift weights and work out on my off-days and with the occasional run, the only thing is that I don't really have any lung capacity... haha, That's the only thing I gotta work on
Hecks yes! I commented on the wrestling one about wanting to see a swimming one. I swim close to 16 miles a week, plus lifting weights and the occasional run. I have the mentality to make it through I believe, let's hope I'm right.
