how close can they sail?and reminds be of full batten sails.

You wonder about the nose or finger on the yard: when the sail is hoisted it makes sure the yard stays on the correct side and does not tangle in the ropes.Essential equipment.

It is very difficult to have an accidental jibe with a junkrig because you can stay "sur la fausse panne" on wrong breakdown very easy. It was a volonteer jibe !!!
