When student filmmaker Noah Gray took his video camera to the White House (almost) everyday during the summer of 2009, he was surprised to find an assortment of protesters demonstrating for causes as diverse as the individuals - from world peace to animal rights, from freeing the Tamil people to raising awareness of the treatment of women in law enforcement. Struck by how most of their causes dont get much media attention in the 24 hour news cycle, Noah decided to give these activists a voice by creating Stand Up, Speak Out, a short documentary that highlights their stories.

The film celebrates our right to assemble and speak freely, but also explores some of the challenges to exercising our First Amendment rights at the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Featuring original music by peace worker, civil rights activist and musician Franco Mares, who touched Noah with his passion for humanitarian causes, and to whom he dedicates the film after Francos untimely passing.

  • Thank you! Especially for putting Franco's music in it. Good work, nice meeting you!

  • really great work! well done. such an interesting short. thanks!

  • Permit? Not! That woman walked 18 days only to be chased away by some thug with a gun?!?

Yikes. Good stuff. My only comment is that our rights - according to the declaration of independence - we are born with. The constitution is to restrict the government - not to give us rights.

  • dude....that was very cool. I especially appreciated the jumping police dog and 60's protest music. Very sad about franco. Great job.

  • Love it! Great job papa! Hard work pays off...
