In the first episode that airs on Kentucky Educational Television, Silas House talks about his childhood in eastern Kentucky, the inspirations for his best-selling novels and his passion for preserving Appalachia's hills and hollows. Author of four novels and a two-time recipient of the Kentucky Novel of the Year award, House holds the National Endowment for the Humanities chair in Appalachian Studies at Berea where he will teach Appalachian literature in the fall of 2010.
Hosted by Dr. Chad Berry, director of Berea's Appalachian center, "Head of the Holler" is a monthly series that examines issues facing Appalachia and features notable guests from the region.
