You made it wrong! The reason the machine is a box is because it's supposed to hide whatever switches it off so someone who hasn't seen it before doesn't know what's coming.

@GodFire16 . Seems to me that the concept of these devices calls for it to create noise before operating, the more the better, as it is intended to make a person that has switched it on, without knowing what it is, start to worry about what they have done now. Sadly, it seems few implementations of the concept really focuses on the idea that the device is supposed to be disturbing and distressing, not funny.

@Thrial : Actually, the purpose of the Shannon/Minsky machine is not that there is no point in it, or that it turns itself off, but in the psychological effect the device is supposed to have on a person that does not know what it is.
