...the front jury struts broke, plane tipped forward, nosed in and flipped. We all screamed down to the plane, and discovered to our relief the pilot was OK, albeit upside down. The plane's back was broken; It was a total loss. The culprit: Excess water in the tanks, and subsequently the fuel system. It was a beautiful plane, too.

OMG, memories! In 1988 I was watching friends button up a Cessna Bird Dog on floats while on a dolly at KAWO; Once done they ran it up and it checked out, so we towed it to a side runway, aligned the dolly, unhooked and let the plane track, lift and climb. Problem was...at 100 feet the engine sputted and quit. No time to restart, pilot went off to grass, step-landed and did a perfect job, until...
