This full photo realistic animation of a complete cycle of the moon (known as a "synodic month" or "lunar month") was completed in collaboration with, and based upon photos taken by Steampunk artist Dr Tim Wetherell for his large wall mounted project "Clockwork Universe" commissioned and to be shown at Canberra's Questacon - National Science and Technology Centre.

View Dr Tim Wetherell's website here:
http://platypusart.com/wetherell/sculpture_clockwork.html

The final completed version of this animation will be played as part of the installation and be more than half a metre in diameter.

  • luv2teachscience

    sure go crazy :)

  • ummmm excuse me...this video is completly backwards...Im learnin bout this stuff in science class rite now and this aint how it looks in class

  • then play it in reverse...

  • Great video and well timed to the music!

    BUT ...

"To be shown in Canberra"? Then why, oh why, does it show the phases of the Moon from a NORTHERN-hemisphere point of view? (D-O-C).

Can we please have a version suitable for the southern hemisphere? (C-O-D).

  • we would of liked to do the view from the southern hemisphere, unfortunatly we need extremly detailed data for the bump maps for the craters which we were unable to obtain for the southern hemisphere

  • if u have a laptop and u hold it close to ur face through out the whole video as the moon changes to a new moon looks pretty cool.

  • you should see the HD version

  • Can I have your permission to incorporate a portion of your video in a claymation video I am making with my students. The video will never be sold. It will only be shown at my school and entered in a district video contest.
