PART 2: Marshmallows aren't Vegetarian (unless specifically stated and *lab-tested*). Modern "marshmallows" are made with air-blown gelatin. Gelatin is probably the most repulsive of all animal products- made from rendering down the hooves, connective tissues, joints, eyeballs, brains and anything else that ends up in the sluice grates of the slaughterhouse floor. Originally, Marshmallows were made from the Marsh Mallows - a plant from Egypt. They were an expensive imported delicacy around the turn of the last century. Not too long after that, somebody found that you could make a fair approximation of the real Marshmallow texture by air-blowing gelatin and adding all sorts of other junk. The government never forced the frauds to change their deceptive labeling. It became so common that within a few decades, almost nobody even remembered what "Marshmallows" actually were, nor where the name came from.
Which leads us to today, when scumbags will defraud the public, mislead entrepreneurs, sicken consumers, etc., by claiming that their gels can make "vegetarian" marshmallows.

The answer? Filing complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and FDA. Somebody please let me know who to complain to in Canada. The other (BEST) solution is a class-action lawsuit.

  • Apparently you don't know about vegetarianism or veganism.

  • are we kidding? the USDA is sending billions of gimpy cows to slaughter for the MEat industry..... Did we really think they'd be concerned over a little pufffy marshmallow? For health & heart - GO VEGAN!

  • From a kid to grown up every one drinks cow's milk .. just like a infant from Mother ... this is reason why India worships and treats Cow like pet animal and not as for slaughter. The great King Buddha left his kingdom just because he saw a bird hit by hunter and it fell before its feet. No religion encourages non vegetarian ... i am not saying to stop ... but reduce it and do not make it staple food. Have mercy to wards animals .. you wont be awarded .. you are responsible for not killing it

  • I bet that duding a killing and pretty much got off scott free.

  • looks like the Gefen stuff is good.

  • that's just sad that Emes was not honest enough to tell the truth. they make a kosher geletan which is good for people who don't want to eat pork, but they are not vegan so they don't mind if the marshmallows have animal products in them. 'kosher' and 'vegan' are obviously not the same....

  • That's why I never eat gelatin, unless it has alcohol in it.

  • and I'm saying what it looks like has no actual value for any sane person. It doesn't matter if it looks like a dead cow, as long as it isn't an actual dead cow. Also, for many veg*ns, things like veggie burgers are mostly used as transitional foods, or to help blend in with omnivores (i.e. taking veggie burgers to the barbecue so you can eat hamburgers, or getting a veggie burger at burger king so everyone else can get what they want and you don't impose on them).

  • i'm saying it looks like you have killed a cow and eating it, even though it's fake meat why would a vegan want to eat something that looks like something they are against which is killing animals for food. why eat a veggie burger when normally a burger is a dead cow, and eating a cow or any meat like that is against the vegan belief.

  • Who cares what it looks or tastes like? Most people who are vegan choose it for ethical reasons that have nothing to do with look or taste or consistency/texture.

  • it's the principal of the matter why be vegan and then eat something that looks like it's from the real thing why would you want to even eat something that most non-vegans eat its the principal of the matter! i'm talking about the whole conversation about the fake burgers.

  • There's a label on the side claiming that there were no animal products involved in the making.
