Test of some virtual pianos with Numa Nero and soundcard Edirol UA-1G. For each virtual instrument i've played little exctracts of Beethoven Tempest sonata, etude Op 25 No 2 and valse Op 69 No1 by Chopin. In this first part you can ear 4Front TruePianos, Acoustica Pianissimo, Modartt Pianoteq, Native instrument Grand Berlin and Tonehammer Emotional piano with Kontakt.

  • Did you record using speakers or did you generate the sound from MIDI?

  • @alinnman I recorded directly the output sound from my card with Cantabile when I was playing live with my masterkeyboard

  • I have TP, Pianissimo, Pianoteq and Akoustik Piano-- I prefer TP's "Atlantis" module. It just "does something to me".

  • @VenVile The Berlin Grand is very bright, with a nice, sharp attack. Suffers a bit on the low end as well. (I could be wrong with my low end assessments, as I'm listening through headphones).

The Emotional Piano has a lovely tone. A bit dark, and tame in comparison to Native Instruments' own or Pianissimo, but I like it. But, in pure bang for buck, I might have to go with Pianissimo or True Pianos.

  • True Pianos sounds adequate enough. No wow factor, but it does the job. A very balanced sound. But, I think it starts to sound cluttered as more notes are played simultaneously.

Pianissimo has a nice, bright sound. Very wide as well...but I think it lacks on the fullness as the notes get lower.

I love Pianoteq the first time I heard it, but in comparison to the others, I really don't find that it cuts through. The lower notes sound a bit thin too. But, it offers the most flexibility. Thanks!

  • doesnt seem to be much difference...maybe from the players perspective you could comment on a preference...I have Pianoteq ..seemed to make sense on a laptop...

  • Please, try the new Truepianos Atlantis Module, it is amazing

  • like truepianos because of it's adjustable, but pianissimo sounds really great!

  • @Thepianopenguin

    I vote for Pianissimo.
