I rememeber listening to "American Top 40" and my friend having a Billboard magazine back then and reading the list. This song was there all right--at the #41 position but listed as "Richard Cocciante". Because of the fact it never hit the top 40 I never heard it...until now. The man sounds as though his soul's being torn right from him. I was13 in 1976 and I would've found this song to be too much back then. Heh, and to think I was dumb enough to feel that Gilbert O' Sullivan had it bad in '72!
I'm simply amazed at what you can find on YouTube. I stumbled upon this while trying to locate songs from the 70s that just missed cracking the Top 40. This song peaked at #41 on Billiboards back in May 1976. Obviously, quite a few radio stations were playing his single...but just not frequently enough to get it on Casey Casem's AT40. Interesting song.
quintessentially European...all in a positive way...dramatic...emotion unabashedly worn on one's sleeve...nice arrangement....escalating to the crescendo....
had this on a LP that unfortunately i let slip away..thank gawd for youtube!
A "lung" lol. But thanks for the tune. Wish they would press this on CD.

I heard this on the radio in Boston around the fall of 1976. Very dramatic, intense performance.
