Free Scrap

Got a call to pick up some free roof top air conditioning units. I usually get them by myself but with hard times I'm splitting the profit with some friends. We'll strip them down tomorrow to take them in for Monday.

The truck is my friend and neighbors, I do most of the work on it, He's really hard on it. You know, donuts, can't leave without laying a patch, sliding into curbs, driving over bushes and ripping the brake lines out. REALLY HARD on it.

You got lucky that someone would give those to you, and whoever gave them to you is an absolute idiot.

I saw one of those go for over $6000 in scrap. That was when copper was semi-close to it's peak price. Even with prices low that thing would still easily go for $2000+ in scrap alone.

One question. Are you recovering the freon from these with a recovery unit before you dismantle these? Hope so, as it's illegal to cut the lines and let it into the atmosphere, if you get caught it's a very big heafty fine which would be far more than the copper would be worth, just thought I'd ask.
