READ HERE FIRST! Hopefully this will inspire someone to compose. I know it would me.....Obviously there are different ways to do this - this is simply one of those. Pencil and paper and an individual thought are all that is necessary. But on the other hand, software (this is Sibelius 7) does not necessarily inhibit that process either. The mouse is the pencil, the monitor is the music tablet. The process may be varied, however the fact that it all starts with a thought being expressed in a unique way is the essence of composition.

  • I just used this to organize my thoughts and to simplify the steps I take. My biggest problem: I get distracted and move to different steps then get lost, then disinterested. Last night I used a Bach sarabande as a starting melody and I really got going. Thanks Daniel!

  • I am just like velvetpaws999, you lost me after the melody. Very impressive that you can do this so quickly.

  • DANIEL: Delicious 1-system tutorial, VERY well done, clear & fun step by step, BRAVO! ANDY

  • wow! a programme that tells you of dissonance and parallel 8ths/5ths? that's like a music spell checker

  • Sorry, but just looking at this video does not help me understand what you are doing and how you are doing it. After you entered your basic melody, you lost me...

maybe this is not for beginners like me? but then, the pros won't need the help, either... so for whom is this really?

I use ScoreWriter 4, a simplified version of Overture, and it works great, but I am just starting with 4 part compositions, and hence am discovering the software and what it can do. Some comments, please, would help!

  • Very nice!!! You're the best teacher ever!!! Congratulations,

  • Thanks Leo very much. I always am composing something in my head that is more complex than a chorale or hymn, but it is just that simplicity that I have a hard time with! I want to compose weekly hymns, but I get lost and start to put in complex chords and add voices. Can I put this up on freshage.org?

  • I only compose bad things, I don't think a program helps me ! Maybe a little bit wine or beer (belgium humour)

  • This is a very good preperation for the christmastide. I will surely use this incitations. Many thanks.

  • Bravo Daniel !!!!
