@coryisawake In the score, the notes are supposed to be approximated.

What a great performer, amazing instrument. Never heard too much from this great artist though...Sad.

Mercy!!!! SING!

That's how its done.

@Bigman240 A little too dark for what? Where is this rule?

the tempo is way too fast. Only a conductor who doesn't know about jazz could think this is mornful. Listen to the Miles Davis version instead.

There's just something special about the Black female voice. So many Black female singers switch effortlessly between soprano and mezzo, and the color[of the voice] just rolls over. Quivar's is the absolute perfect mezzo voice in every possible way but, of course...RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS!

i think this is a wonderful interpretation of this song. those "purists" out there. This is Gershwin and he would have loved this performance.

@tdavidray Gershwin wrote this piece w. a lot of intention, making provisions for black operatic singers to only perform it, etc. The fact that it is a more recent composition than other great composers, doesn't justify disregarding the music that he (or anyone) thoughtfully put down. The opus isn't jazz; it's opera. Quivar's interpretation is above average in many ways in my opinion, but if there are short-comings, they will not be found in sloppy and self-excusing musicianship.
Underrated... and it's a crying shame. This woman has a phenomenal instrument.
