@gsaugen -- in America, some women dye their hair, but many of us don't mind looking our true ages, because there is more to us than just looks

Happy Birthday Art, You are such a great singer

So, SILVERGIRL refers to the singer's wife? I mean, a mature, old wife? Don't American women dye their hair? In Brazil, almost all Brazilian women do, "cause they don't like to look like old! (GILBERTO SAUGEN DO BRASIL)

@gsaugen The line "Sail on, silver girl" is often reputed to refer to a needle (meaning the song is about heroin) but it actually refers to Simon's girlfriend (and later wife) Peggy Harper who found a few gray hairs and was upset. The lyric was meant as a joke - Simon calling her "Silver Girl" because of her hair. (thanks, Helen - York, England)

I love S&G song !!!

@gsaugen silver girl is and was a term for heroin, the verse was added in at the last minute because Simon and Garfunkel felt the song needed something else, it changed the meaning to one of support for someone who is troubled by drug addiction.

@gsaugen it means like when a baby bird flies away from its nest for the first time and sees the world on its own, without the parent. I do not know who specifically the silver girl is but that is what the phrase means.. hope this helps :)

Listen to Scottish Singer/songwriter singing 'The Sound of Silence' just out! In MONO OR STEREO MIX.

He is absolutely wonderful! And if you watch the Central Park concert, he took a breath at the same moment there as he did here.
