The story of a woman who found the courage to love and the strength to survive against all odds. Nora, is adopted by a prominent family in Shanghai in 1941. After the defeat of the Japanese, she joins the Communists, believing they are the liberators of China. Communist officials decide to break her of any bougeois tendencies and subject her to excruciating persecution. She calls out to God for salvation and miracles follow.

Don't get me wrong...the movie is alright but since I had already read the book...the movie just left me wanting more...:)...o well great true story though I highly recommend the book...really moving...
The book is far better than the movie...the movie seemed rushed at the end...so if you read the book you would understand but of course they can't put everything in the movie..."NOTE to SELF": first see the movie then read the book....
