Honestly, some of the rules of English are legitimate (like putting an "e" at the end of a word to make the first vowel a long vowel; sake and sack, take and tack, lake and lack)

We just need to stick to those rules and not have things like take, sake and make and then suddenly have come which, due to its spelling, should be pronounced like comb.
